Dental Council Approved Verifiable Oral Surgery CPD Points

The Irish Dental Council recognises the benefit of dentists attending these clinics to gain Oral Surgery experience and has awarded 12 Verifiable Oral Surgery CPD Points for spending a day in my clinic in Tullamore.

Dentists who attend are asked to participate as a surgical assistant so they make have a close up view of all procedures. There is scope for carrying out some procedures under supervision if suitable patients present for treatment.

Attendance is free and there is no limit on the number of sessions you may attend. Most dentists find several sessions with 3 to 4 weeks separation provides for the best experience. It is best to consider which particular areas you are most interested in and to focus on these limited objectives. This will result in a better experience and a greater increase in skill sets.

Flap Design
Bone removal
Tooth Division
Suturing
Pain Control
Difficult or poor anaesthesia management
Sedation

Not every patient will be having wisdom teeth removed. Some patients may be attending for a routine extraction because they are medically compromised or present other management issues which makes treatment in a community setting difficult.

IV SEDATION

If you are interested in gaining experience in IV Sedation. You may attend in a similar manner and watch and assist in the sedation aspect of the Oral Surgery Clinic.

We aim to see 10 patients in each session, at lease 5 patients will normally require sedation. This will vary and there is no guarantee on the number of sedation case you will be exposed to.

There is no restriction on the number of times you may attend and there is no charge for attending.
